On commercial spec sheets and retail packaging, buyers frequently see the terms microfiber and peachskin used in the same sentence. In the weaving mill, however, they identify two completely different specifications.
Microfiber refers to the yarn itself—synthetic filaments spun below 1 denier per filament to produce a dense, lightweight cloth. Peachskin refers to a mechanical finishing process where high-speed sanding rollers gently abrade the woven fabric surface, raising millions of microscopic fiber ends into a velvety, peach-like nap. Our finished peachskin fabric is our #1 bestseller for home bedding programs worldwide.
Comparison overview
| Parameter | Microfiber (flat / unsanded) | Peachskin (sanded microfiber) |
|---|---|---|
| Construction stage | Loom-state greige or calendered smooth | Mechanically brushed/sanded after weaving |
| Surface hand | Slick, smooth, cool, low-friction face | Velvety, powdery nap with a dry, cotton-like touch |
| Finished GSM band | 60–120 g/m² (often lighter for linings/utility) | 75–120 g/m² for standard finished bedding |
| Finished width | 150–315 cm (woven greige 160–330 cm) | 150–315 cm (wide-width sheet formats) |
| Weaving machinery | Waterjet plain or twill; dobby attachments | Waterjet plain or twill; dobby attachments |
| Mill order floor (MOQ) | Stock greige: no minimum; custom greige: 5,000 m | 5,000 m per color/spec (stacking applies) |
| Printing routes | Rotary print: 5,000 m; digital: no minimum | Rotary print: 5,000 m; digital: no minimum |
| Key buyer confirmation | Yarn filament denier, slickness, glare level | Sanding depth, shade shift after abrasion, hand sample |
When peachskin is the right choice
Choose peachskin when your retail customers expect soft, cozy bedding that feels warm to the touch right out of the package. Sanding breaks the slick, plastic sheen of raw polyester filament and creates a matte surface that drapes cleanly on beds and pillows.
Key applications for peachskin include:
- Sheet sets, duvet covers, and pillowcases: Delivers cotton-like softness with the wash durability, wrinkle resistance, and colorfastness of 100% polyester.
- Window curtains and drapery: The brushed face diffuses room light without the high gloss of calendered polyester.
- Garment linings and robes: Provides a velvety, non-clinging hand against bare skin.
When unsanded microfiber fits better
Choose unsanded, flat microfiber when your product requires a smooth, slick surface with minimal friction. Flat microfiber retains its unbroken filament surface, making it lighter and free of loose surface fibers.
Common uses for flat microfiber include:
- Mattress encasements and utility protectors: Smooth faces slide easily under fitted sheets.
- Lightweight shells and garment linings: Slippery surfaces allow outer fabrics to glide smoothly.
- Dust-resistant and barrier covers: Tightly packed filaments without a raised nap prevent pet hair and lint from clinging.
Weaving capabilities and loom boundaries
Weaverine operates 650+ waterjet looms across our Zhejiang (Changxing) and Wuhe weaving facilities. We weave standard goods in plain weave and twill weave. For textured bedding programs, we operate dobby shedding attachments mounted directly onto our waterjet looms to weave satin stripes and small geometric figures.
Important boundary: Jacquard weaving is not handled at this mill. If your procurement requires complex jacquard damasks, large floral motifs in the weave, or high-shaft jacquard tapestries, that requires a specialized jacquard hall outside our waterjet setup.
Order floors and stacking rules
Procurement teams must factor in our commercial minimum order quantities (MOQ):
- Greige fabric: In-stock greige specifications have no minimum order quantity. Custom greige constructions (bespoke width, GSM, or yarn setup) carry a 5,000-meter floor.
- Solid dyed peachskin: Piece dyeing has a 3,000-meter floor, while peachskin sanding carries a 5,000-meter floor. By our stacking rule, multi-process programs follow the higher floor: plan for 5,000 meters per color/spec.
- Printed peachskin: Rotary disperse printing carries a 5,000-meter production minimum. However, digital printing on peachskin keeps no printing minimum, allowing short runs and rapid design sampling without committing to bulk screen yardage.
Buyer specification checklist
Before issuing a formal purchase order or RFQ, verify that your technical sheet states:
- Fiber composition: 100% polyester (virgin PET or GRS-certified regenerated polyester).
- Yarn count and filament: Filament denier (e.g., micro-denier filament vs standard DTY).
- Fabric finish: Explicitly specify "sanded peachskin" (including light, medium, or heavy nap) or "flat unsanded microfiber."
- Weight: Finished GSM (75–120 g/m² standard for peachskin).
- Width: Finished cuttable width (150–315 cm) rather than loom-state greige width.
- Weave construction: Plain weave, twill weave, or dobby satin stripe.
- Compliance: Required documentation, such as OEKO-TEX STANDARD 100 or GRS transaction certificates for recycled lots. Note: laboratory performance results vary by lot and recipe; confirm all targets on physical strike-offs rather than assuming theoretical values.
