What are the different names for greige fabric?

Greige fabric (the professional textile industry term) is known by several names: grey fabric, gray fabric, loom-state fabric, raw fabric, unfinished fabric, greige goods, polyester greige. In Chinese it is called 涤纶坯布, 聚酯坯布, 坯布 (pībù), 白坯布 or 毛坯布; 胚布 is a common misspelling of 坯布. All of these mean the same product — loom-state cloth that has not been bleached, dyed, printed or finished. PFD is deliberately NOT on that list: PFD (Prepared for Dyeing) is the next stage, after scouring and bleaching, when the cloth is ready for the dye house. Greige and PFD are different deliverables.

Do you deliver greige fabric or PFD?

We deliver loom-state greige fabric straight from our waterjet looms, with sizing and weaving oils intact, unbleached and undyed. If you require fabric ready for the dye house, that is PFD/RFD (Prepared for Dyeing), which is a separate processing stage with different delivery standards and pricing. Filament polyester woven greige falls under heading 5407 (woven fabrics of synthetic filament yarn), with textured polyester filament (>=85% by weight) typically classified under subheading 5407.52. Spun-staple polyester greige falls under heading 5513 (woven fabrics of synthetic staple fibers). Factors such as filament vs. staple, bleaching status, and weave construction determine the exact subheading. Always have your customs broker verify against physical specifications before export.

The 55–120 GSM stated on this page represents loom-state greige weight, not post-setting or finished weight—heat-setting and downstream finishing alter hand feel and weight readings. Tensile strength is determined by strip or grab testing and must specify the test standard, warp vs. weft direction, and specimen conditioning. We recommend locking both weight tolerance and tensile test methods into your purchase contract, as these are the most common inspection dispute points.
