In a fabric programme the unit is the metre: a 5,000 m order is a 5,000-unit lot under this table, and the sample is that many metres drawn from several rolls, not from one end.

Questions about the AQL table

What does AQL 2.5 mean?
AQL 2.5 does not mean "2.5% of the fabric is defective". It is the number of defects a sample may contain and the lot may still be accepted: with a 200-unit sample at AQL 2.5, the lot passes with ten defects or fewer and fails at eleven.
How do I read the AQL sample size table?
Three steps. Find your lot size in the first column. Read the code letter on that row at General Level II — the code is what gives the sample size. Then look that code up in the standard's own table and read the accept and reject numbers from the column for your agreed AQL.
Which AQL should I use for a fabric order?
Per characteristic, not per order: 1.5 for critical characteristics such as colour and width, 2.5 for major defects, and 4.0 for minor cosmetic deviations. It is agreed in writing before goods are made, together with the inspection level and the rule for what happens on a reject.
Does this calculator replace the standard?
No. ISO 2859-1 and ANSI ASQ Z1.4 are sold documents, and the inspector works from their copy. This is the Level II table for normal single sampling; special inspection levels, tightened and reduced inspection, and the arrow cells at the smallest sample sizes all live in the standard itself.
Does this mill publish a house AQL?
No. The right number depends on the characteristic, the lot size and the end use, so it is agreed per order, in writing, before goods are made. What this mill does hold is GRS for recycled content and an OEKO-TEX certificate for chemical safety — those are the claims that travel with the goods.
