Lyocell

A cellulosic fiber spun from wood pulp in a closed-loop solvent process. Weaverine does not spin cellulosics; polyester buyers usually spec microfiber or peachskin instead.

Lyocell fabric starts as wood pulp dissolved in a closed-loop amine-oxide solvent, then spun into cellulosic fiber. The hand reads cool, smooth, and fluid with a silk-like drape, which is why bedding and apparel brands write it when the brief is cool-to-touch drape rather than crisp cotton.

Tencel™ is Lenzing's brand name for its lyocell and modal fibers—not a separate fiber family. The generic name stays lyocell; the brand marks one audited source with chain-of-custody paperwork. Half the search volume sits on the brand because retail hangs the swing tag.

Weaverine does not spin it. Cellulosics need pulp-dissolving and solvent-spinning chemistry the mill does not operate; the operation is 100% polyester flat-woven cloth on 650+ waterjets. Polyester programs covering the same buying jobs are microfiber under 1 denier for silky drape, peachskin brushing for soft-hand bedding from 5,000 m, or moisture-wicking finish where the brief is cool-dry sleep. Approve hand, GSM, width, and finish on a sample.

Common questions

What is lyocell fabric?

Lyocell is a cellulosic fiber spun from wood pulp dissolved in a closed-loop solvent. It reads cool, smooth, and fluid, and is sold into bedding and apparel where a silk-like drape is the brief.

Is Tencel the same as lyocell?

Tencel™ is Lenzing's brand name for its lyocell (and modal) fibers. Lyocell is the generic fiber name; Tencel™ is one branded source of it.

Does Weaverine weave lyocell or Tencel™?

No. Lyocell needs pulp-dissolving and solvent-spinning lines the mill does not run; Weaverine weaves 100% polyester on waterjets. Buyers chasing cool drape usually approve microfiber, peachskin brushing, or moisture-wicking finish on a sample instead.
