Name the stage, own the preparation

Three abbreviations decide who owns wet preparation and what the next plant receives. This page maps greige, PFD, and RFD to PO fields—then routes each stage to its term page and to mill stock.

  • Greige vs PFD vs RFD in one comparison table
  • Stolen-query coverage: pfd meaning, meaning of rfd, rfd fabric, P/D Y/D PRT PFP
  • Each stage links to its term page—no duplicated checklists

Which stage does your PO mean?

1

Write greige when

Your finisher controls all wet preparation—or you want mill greige as a flexible base, stock or custom.

  • Nominated finisher runs scour, bleach, and dye
  • Stock greige fits (no MOQ) or custom greige at 5,000 m/spec
  • You price base cloth separately from conversion
2

Write PFD / RFD when

The next plant must dye or print soon and cannot run full greige preparation.

  • Piece dye, garment dye, or print is the next step
  • Lab-dip approval gates bulk color
  • Write preparation steps + tests—letters alone are not a spec

How industrial buyers usually work with us

We confirm stock greige or a sample path before you lock color, print, or finishing MOQs.

  3. 03

    Quote the production lane

Mill-side response on feasibility, MOQ tier, and next steps—not a generic catalog email.

Three letters, two stages, one PO rule

Greige is loom-state cloth with sizing and oils still on. PFD is scoured and usually bleached so dye takes evenly. RFD is the trade synonym most mills use interchangeably with PFD when tests are written. The letters never substitute for preparation steps, whiteness, absorbency, pH, residuals, and the next dye or print route.

01

Greige: loom-state, flexible

Unfinished base for your finishing line. Polyester greige stock runs 160–330 cm at 55–120 GSM; custom at 5,000 m per specification.

02

PFD: dye-ready, still uncolored

Scoured, usually bleached base for piece dye, garment dye, or print. PFD white is still a preparation stage, not a finished shade.

03

RFD: same commercial job

Ready for dyeing—Weaverine treats PFD and RFD as synonyms when the same test list is attached. Prefer one letter on the line either way.

What to specify for each stage

Preparation steps in writing

Singe, desize, scour, bleach—name which apply. Wet process moves width and GSM, so freeze after-preparation numbers.

Base tests, not just letters

Whiteness, absorbency, pH, residuals, width, GSM, weave, fiber. A dye trial on that construction beats any abbreviation.

Color path after the stage

Piece dye, print, then lab dip for solids or strike-off for prints. P/D, Y/D, PRT, and PFP sit next to PFD on mill quotes—each names a route, not a fiber.

Mill stock behind greige

650+ waterjet looms, stock greige with no minimum, custom from 5,000 m. Bleached-white programs from 2,000 m per white program.
