Weaving Looms

The choice of loom determines production speed, fabric quality, and the range of materials a mill can produce.

High-Speed Looms

Air jet looms represent the fastest weaving technology available, using compressed air to propel weft yarn at speeds up to 1,200 picks per minute. They excel with lightweight to medium-weight synthetic fabrics but consume significant energy through air compression. Water jet looms offer an energy-efficient alternative for hydrophobic synthetics like polyester, using water jets for weft insertion at speeds approaching 1,000 picks per minute—though they're limited to fibers that repel rather than absorb water.

Versatile Looms

Rapier looms use mechanical carriers to insert weft, sacrificing some speed for exceptional versatility. They handle any fiber type—natural, synthetic, or blended—and accommodate wider fabrics and heavier constructions than pneumatic looms. Projectile looms use small metal grippers to carry weft, offering outstanding reliability for extra-wide fabrics and heavy industrial applications.

Pattern Looms

Jacquard looms control individual warp threads through thousands of hooks, enabling unlimited pattern complexity for luxury textiles, damasks, and intricate designs. Dobby looms control groups of warp threads through harness frames, producing geometric patterns at higher speeds and lower cost than jacquard—though with more limited design possibilities.

Warp Preparation Equipment

Before weaving can begin, warp yarns must be prepared through a series of operations that directly affect weaving efficiency and fabric quality.

Warping machines arrange hundreds or thousands of yarns in parallel on a warp beam, with direct warping serving high-volume production and sectional warping handling short runs and pattern warps. Sizing machines apply protective coatings that strengthen yarns and reduce breakage during weaving—essential for staple fibers and high-speed production. Slashers combine multiple warp beams, sizing, and drying in one continuous high-capacity operation. Drawing-in machines automate the threading of warp yarns through heddles and reed, dramatically reducing setup time. Winding machines prepare yarn packages while removing defects, serving as a critical quality checkpoint between spinning and weaving.

Quality Control

Inspection machines examine finished fabric for defects, measure length, and assign quality grades before shipping—the final checkpoint ensuring customers receive material that meets specifications.
